Senior Spotlight
Welcome to Derby High School's Class of 2025 Senior Spotlight web page! Each featured senior reflects on their favorite memories, accomplishments, school and community involvement, and/or postsecondary plans. Each senior leaves a meaningful mark on our school community.
Audrey is an active member of Scholars Bowl, which has become one of her favorite high school experiences. She is one of three National Merit Semifinalists at Derby High School.
Isabella holds leadership roles in Student Council, Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) and National Honor Society. She is one of three National Merit Semifinalists from Derby High School.
Carson is involved with numerous groups including Varsity Swim, Powerlifting, plays violin in the Philharmonic Orchestra and more. She is one of three National Merit Semifinalists at Derby High School.
Maggie is involved in Newspaper, Yearbook, NAHS, NHS, Track and Field, and Student Council.
Boston is the embodiment of school pride. His contagious energy lights up the hallways and school events!
Amelia is involved in National Art Honor Society and has been vice president, president and is now secretary.
Meet Lucas, a senior at Derby High School! Lucas is a member of Cross Country, swim, track and field and FCA. Between school, sports, and small group at his church, Lucas stays pretty busy. During the AVCTL league for Cross Country, Lucas placed first and the team placed second overall.
Meet Victoria, a senior at Derby High School! Victoria loves to travel, meet new people, and hangout with friends. She is fluent in Spanish and spends her summers in Mexico. Victoria won queen of Malpaso in the state of Aguascalientes in Mexico by raising $7,000 for the town’s church. The money raised goes towards preserving the church’s condition.
Meet Caleb, a senior at Derby High School! As the senior class president, Caleb oversees senior activities and helps plan Student Council events. He is also the current DECA chapter president, where he leads chapter meetings and competes at DECA conferences and placed first in his last event.
Meet Annabelle, a senior at Derby High School! Annabelle plays the cello in the Philharmonic Orchestra and is the principal of both orchestras. Each section in the orchestra is led by a principal player, who plays solos, determines technical details like bowing or breathing and signals entrances and exits.
Meet Jersey, a senior at Derby High School! Jersey is a coach for the Panther Pals Basketball team, a member of the Softball team and a student intern for the Citizens Bank of Kansas, the bank branch inside DHS. Jersey has been playing softball for nine years, with one of her proudest high school achievements being the journey to state softball during her junior year.
Meet Cadence, a senior at Derby High School! Cadence is a member of the Pantherettes team, National Honor Society and Student2Student. Cadence’s key high school accomplishment that she is the most proud of is doing the Butler Early College Academy.
Meet Peter, a senior at Derby High School! Peter is a proud member of video production and the drama club. He is also a tenor in the Philharmonic Choir, as well as a percussion player in band which includes drums, mallets and auxiliary instruments.
Meet Liberty, a senior at Derby High School! Liberty is an active member of the high school Yearbook team and a Varsity Track and Field athlete. One of her proudest achievements is winning first place in the sports photography category at the Kansas School Press Association Regionals competition.
Meet Owen, a senior at Derby High School! Owen is involved in Cross Country and on the Swim and Dive team, already qualifying for state in the 200-medley relay! In addition to school sports, he is also a member of the Derby Swim Club.
Meet Alaina, a senior at Derby High School! Alaina is involved in the choral program in both Philharmonic Choir and Madrigals. Her biggest accomplishment was competing in state and district competitions and receiving a high score of one. She was then selected to participate in the state choir!
Brandon has been involved in the Wind Ensemble where he plays the French horn, Marching Band where he plays the mellophone and Jazz Band where he has played the trumpet for four years. He has also performed with the orchestra and the theater pit orchestra, as well as soloing on French horn with the Philharmonic Choir.
Adriana is involved in DECA, Debate and Orchestra. One of her hardest accomplishments she succeeded in was finishing her first year of college at Butler Community College by taking 15 credit hours on top of her high school classes. “It was a real struggle at first getting used to the workload but over time I eased into it and was even able to get on the Dean’s Honor Roll both semesters,” Adriana said.
Myca has been learning German for four years, starting as a freshman, and is now fluent in the language. “I wanted to take a second language class other than Spanish and it was cool because it led me to take a class trip to Germany,” Myca said. Myca expresses that learning German showed him a different perspective on life.
Leticia is a member of the girls’ soccer team, DECA, National Honor Society, Women in Stem and AmeriCorps. Her key accomplishment from high school was getting an internship at a law firm during the summer of her sophomore year. “I got to work beside some really awesome people while also learning legal terms in my second language, Spanish,” she shared.
Garrett is involved in Varsity Tennis, AFJROTC, National Honor Society and the Fishing Club. One of Garrett’s key accomplishments was being the Wing Commander for the AFJROTC program. He also attended the 4-star leadership camp, which is a nationwide leadership camp in which 70 high school students were selected out of the entire nation.
Lauren was the lead drum major for the marching band, is involved in wind ensemble and Wichita Symphony Youth Orchestra where she plays the flute and National Honor Society. She is also a Work-Based Learning intern for the City of Derby Water Treatment Lab. She mentioned that “my favorite part of my internship is how I get so much more hands-on lab experience than I do in school and that I get to see how it affects the real world.”
Meet Milan, a senior at Derby High School! Milan is a member of Derby’s Football and Wrestling teams. His key accomplishments from high school have been winning an individual state championship title in wrestling and earning all-league for football. He was also recognized as the most valuable player for the high school’s football team.
Jasmine is a proud member of Derby High School’s HOSA club, where she serves as the club’s Treasurer. She placed third at state for Health Infographics National Qualification. Jasmine also plays the violin in the Philharmonic Orchestra, is the executive Business Manager for Derby High School’s Drama Club and has served as the Principal Stage Manager for this year’s major shows.
Justin was one of the three drum majors for the marching band during this year’s football season. Aside from being one of the drum majors, he plays the alto and tenor sax and is in both wind ensemble and jazz band. Justin is also a member of Derby High School’s Scholars Bowl, Student Council and National Honor Society.
Morgan is a varsity swimmer for Derby High School, plays the tenor saxophone in the marching band, symphonic band and pep band. Aside from school activities, Morgan spends some of her free time with the Independent Indoor Marching Band, ICT Winds, and just came back from the world championship. Her main goal to accomplish this year is to graduate high school with her Associate's Degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
Ellie is the president of National Honor Society, Student Body President in Student Council, is involved in Panther Crew, Cross Country and the Early College Academy at Butler. “These all changed me and validated my hard work and balance between all activities,” Ellie said. Her favorite memory at Derby High School is being able to participate in planning her senior Homecoming through Student Council, as well as being a Homecoming queen candidate.
