Most returning Derby students should receive an enrollment packet by mail sometime between mid-June and mid-July. Many of our schools encourage mailing enrollment for our returning students, but please follow the instructions in your specific enrollment packet.
Can I request my student attend a different elementary school?
An in-district transfer request may be submitted to request a different elementary school. The transfer forms are located in all school offices and the Administrative Center, 120 E Washington. Transfer Request forms can be turned into the Administrative Center or to the school office. Transfers will be granted after regular enrollment.
We live outside of Derby USD 260 boundaries, can my student attend Derby Public Schools?
Derby Public Schools currently has a restricted open enrollment policy. Non-resident students will be eligible to enroll in Derby schools provided each student submits: an Out-of-District Waiver yearly, the Waiver is approved, and the enrollment occurs prior to September 20 of the current school year. Non-resident pupils will be admitted only to the extent that staff, equipment, and supplies are available, and policy requirements are met. The waivers are approved following a priority list. Out of district waivers will be granted after regular enrollment, and parents will be notified after the transfer meeting on July 27, 2010.
Are you going to be out of town during enrollment time? If you are a returning student, simply mail-in your enrollment forms prior to leaving town and contact the school when you return. You can pay your fees early online through e-Funds or you can send a check with your enrollment forms. If you are new to the district, you have a couple options. You can contact the schools’ secretaries when they return to the buildings (a couple days before enrollment), or you can contact the Administrative Center and pick up a basic enrollment form to mail-in. Please plan on stopping by the school once you’re back in town to finish any paperwork unaccounted for. Please enroll on time, if not early. Students who enroll late are not guaranteed a spot at their local attendance center.
What vaccinations are required for my student? K.A.R. 28-1-20 defines immunizations required for any individual who attends school. Please click here to view Immunization Requirements for the 2010-2011 School Year as determined by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Does my student need a Health Assesment? Any new early childhood program or kindergarten student will need a school entry physical completed by a licensed physician within 12 months prior to the first day of school. New students under the age of 9 years who are attending a Kansas school for the first time, also require a physical as described above.
